The refrigeration unit may not cool for a number of reasons, as listed below. Check each of them in turn.
1. The “Vacation” Mode is Set
“Vacation” mode turns off the fridge compartment to save energy while you’re away. When this mode is active, a vacation icon appears on the refrigerator’s display.
Availability: This feature is only available on refrigerators with display panels. It is not available on models with a top freezer compartment.
How to Turn Off: Press the “Vacation” button. The icon should disappear from the display.
✅ If the fridge chamber starts working after turning off Vacation mode, your refrigerator is functioning correctly.
🚫 If the fridge still doesn’t work or if the mode wasn’t turned on, move on to the next troubleshooting step.
2. The Ventilation System is Clogged with Ice
If the voltage is unstable or the refrigerator door is opened frequently, ice can build up behind the rear wall. This ice can block the ventilation holes, preventing cold air from circulating properly and causing the fridge temperature to rise.
Solution:
Defrost your refrigerator completely by unplugging it and leaving the doors open for 24 hours.
Once the defrosting is complete, plug the unit back in and check if the fridge compartment starts cooling again.
✅ If the fridge cools properly after defrosting, your appliance is fine, and you can continue using it.
🚫 If the fridge still doesn’t cool, proceed to the next recommendation.
3. Failure of the Fridge
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, your refrigerator may have a mechanical or electrical malfunction. Diagnosing and repairing these issues requires professional tools and expertise.
Next Step:
Contact a Samsung-authorized repair technician to inspect and repair the fridge safely and accurately.
Reasons Why Your Samsung Refrigerator is Not Cooling Properly
The refrigerator is turned off
It’s the first start-up (new refrigerator or after full defrosting)
A temporary power outage occurred
Smart Conversion technology is enabled, switching compartments
Ventilation openings are clogged with ice or debris
The room does not meet the refrigerator’s climate class requirements
What to Do If Your Samsung Refrigerator Isn’t Cooling
Check the Internal Light
Open the fridge door and see if the light comes on.
If the light is off, possible causes include:
The refrigerator is not plugged in
The “Power” button is turned off (check user manual for availability)
No electricity or unstable power supply
Damaged power cord or outlet
Restart the Refrigerator
Unplug the fridge for 10 minutes
Plug it directly into a wall outlet (avoid extension cords)
Set the default temperature: +3°C for fridge / -19°C for freezer
Allow 5–6 hours for the freezer to reach the correct temperature
✅ If it cools properly, the refrigerator is working fine
❌ If not, contact Samsung appliance repair service
Keep in Mind
New refrigerators can take 6–8 hours to cool on first startup
After complete defrosting, allow time for cooling
Following a long power outage, restart the appliance properly
Check Smart Conversion Settings
Some Samsung models (RT, BRB, RF series) have Smart Conversion modes
The freezer may be set to refrigerator mode or turned off
Refer to the user manual to adjust or disable Smart Conversion
Inspect Freezer Air Vents
Remove drawers and inspect the air ducts at the back of the freezer
If clogged with ice or debris, defrost the appliance fully
Clean the compartment to ensure proper air circulation
